Oakland University is pleased to present the inaugural season of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra!
Formerly the Pontiac Oakland Symphony, this semi-professional orchestra “in residence” at Oakland University can trace its rich history to 1976, the year when the Pontiac Symphony entered into partnership with the Oakland University. This 35 year tradition of excellence continues today as this venerable semi-professional orchestra enters a new era of providing the greater Southeastern Michigan area with excellent live performances of the finest symphonic repertoire.
Entering into his 14th year as Director of Orchestral Studies at Oakland University, Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Oakland Symphony, Dr. Gregory Cunningham also serves as the Doris and Paul Travis Associate Professor of Music, and Director of Bands at Oakland University. In addition to his duties at Oakland, Dr. Cunningham is the newly appointed Music Director of the Warren Symphony Orchestra (Warren, MI), is a frequent guest conductor of honor orchestras and bands throughout the Midwest, and serves as a guest conductor and clinician for many high school and middle school ensembles throughout the United States.
